Motorola Droid X: The Full Overview

Please note that there is a more comprehensive Droid X review available if you want. It is impossible right now to find a smartphone bigger than Droid X and its 5 inch tall stature. It boasts a 4.3 inches screen and a 854×480 resolution, exactly the same as the EVO 4G. Sure, the iPhone 4 boasts a higher pixel density, but the mammoth screen of the Droid X more than makes up for the lack of a few pixels here and there.

Motorola also decided to go bigger by including an 8-megapixel camera with dual LED flash that takes relatively clean photos as well as records video in 720p. Motorola included DLNA in addition to HDMI support designed for streaming media to your high definition TV or other device.

Inside the Motorola Droid X beats the heart of a 1GHz TI OMAP processor that handles tasks quickly and with no lag. Also impressive is the memory available. The Droid X comes with 24GB of internal storage: 8GB on board and a 16GB removable micro SD card.

A big difference with the first Droid is that Motorola decided not to include a physical keyboard to this phone. It was a sensible choice because although the phone is huge, it is relatively thin in comparison to its general size. A physical keyboard would’ve most likely made a device already difficult to stuff into a pocket even more difficult. Still, using the larger screen, the on-screen keyboard is not hard to type with and Motorola thoughtfully incorporated a Swype keyboard for individuals who are not satisfied with the stock Android keyboard.

One of the main selling points of the Motorola Droid X is that you can use it as a mobile 3G hotspot for tethering laptops, netbooks and other wireless devices to your 3G connection. Connecting these devices is quick and, depending on your connection, nets decent enough speeds.

While there are plenty of products that offer style over substance, the Droid X delivers plenty of both in a form factor that is sure to elicit plenty of ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ when you bring it out.
